What are the G702 and G703?
The G702 is the one-page cover of a construction pay application. It states the original contract sum, net change by change orders, total completed to date, retainage withheld, and the amount currently due — the nine numbered lines a lender or architect checks first.
The G703 is the continuation sheet behind it: one row per schedule-of-values line, showing scheduled value, work billed previously, work billed this period, percent complete, and the balance remaining. The G703 totals must reconcile to line 4 of the G702 — the most common reason a pay application comes back.
Why applications get rejected
- Owner and contractor reversed, or the lender listed as the owner.
- Change orders folded into line 1 instead of shown on line 2.
- G703 totals that don't tie to the G702 cover.
- Retainage computed on the wrong base, or applied inconsistently across lines.
- Supporting invoices and lien waivers missing from the package.
